E-Safety for Parents

Course Details

This course is designed to inform parents/carers to offer parents guidance on how to keep their children safe online.

By the end of the course, parents will know about:

  • Advantages and disadvantages of using the internet
  • Social media types, age restrictions, fake news, fraud, radicalisation, film footage and pictures.
  • Internet security and software.
  • Qualities of a good password, sharing information.
  • Cyberbullying, how to recognise it, guidance on how to deal with it and who to report it to.
  • Parental control software.
  • On ling gaming, gambling, age restrictions, unsuitable images, sharing information, bullying, addiction.
  • Online grooming, sexting, sharing pictures.
  • Supporting preteens online.
  • Tips for parents to help keep children safe online.
  • Useful websites to find support and guidance.

Entry Requirements:

 You will need to provide evidence that you have any of the following:

  • Been a resident of the UK/ EU for the past three years.
  • Proof of immigration status
  • ​Aged 19+
  • You will need to complete an online form before you join the session.

The benefits of this course

Learning in a supportive environment, away from the demands of normal life, where professional teaching, differentiated for individual need, will support understanding, progression and individual achievement. Completing the workshop will improve parents’ knowledge of the dangers for children and young people when online and how to overcome these dangers. You will also be able to find out about other available courses.

Teaching

All learning is supportive and safe and where professional teaching is individualised to the requirements of each learner. the classes are run by a qualified and experienced tutor. Learners will be expected to contribute to the class on occasions where there may be some group work.

How will progress be monitored and assessed?

Progress will be monitored through informal observation and group discussion. You will be asked to complete a feedback form.
