Course Details
This 7 week Preparing for Functional Skills Maths course will help you improve your confidence in maths and develop the knowledge and skills you need to progress onto a qualification course.
You’ll calculate with large numbers, evaluate expressions, and make substitutions in formulae. You’ll read, write, order, and compare positive and negative numbers. You’ll also explore fractions, decimals, and percentages, learning how to calculate changes, compare values, and perform operations with precision.
Entry Requirements
An initial assessment will determine what level of maths you are currently working at and your suitability for this course.

Benefits of this course
- Learners will develop their maths within a range of skill areas.
- This may include calculations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages, shape and space; money, time, weight, capacity, area and volume and handling data; how to interpret graphs, charts and find statistical averages from sets of data.
Teaching
Full support will be provided by a qualified tutor with demonstrations, handouts, discussion and practical activities. It is important that learners attend all classes, as not attending reduces their ability to achieve on the course.
How will progress be monitored and assessed?
Learning targets will be agreed with the tutor at the beginning of the course, learners will contribute to a learning diary, progress will be observed and assessed during each session. Regular feedback will be provided by the tutor.
Qualifications
This is a non-qualification course. Learners will receive an in-house certificate at the end of their course.
