Course Details   

This learning pathway is for learners who need to develop and establish maths skills in order to progress onto a qualification course.  The course is available at entry level 2, entry level 3.

The course is delivered over 3 terms and covers maths skills topics in:

  • Number
  • Measure, Shape and Space
  • Handling Data.

Course Details

An initial assessment will determine what level of maths you are currently working at and your suitability for this course. You will learn to calculate with large numbers, evaluate expressions, and make substitutions in formulae. You will read, write, order, and compare positive and negative numbers.  You will also explore fractions, decimals, and percentages, learning how to calculate changes, compare values, and perform operations with precision.

You will also complete an addtional learning module which will support your skills development. 

  • Maths Vocabulary - This module will ensure that you develop an understanding of the technical language used in maths.

Who is this course for?

For learners who need additional support to develop maths skills in order to move onto a functional skills maths qualification course.

How will I be taught and assessed?

You will be taught in a classroom situation with one to one, pairs and small group work and discussion.

How will I progress?

This course leads onto the functional skills maths qualification courses and opportunity for other SAFL courses.

Do I need to bring my own equipment/materials?

Paper, pens.  Self-study materials will be provided on the course.
