Keeping up with the Children Workshop  - Maths

Course Details:

This course is designed to inform parents/carers about how their children are taught Maths in Sandwell schools.  It will help parents/carers to support their children with their Maths skills, develop their own Maths skills and improve their confidence with Maths.

The course is offered as separate workshops, where schools can select the workshops that would be most useful for their parents.  Workshops can be offered in:

  • Multiplication and Division
  • Fractions
  • Percentages
  • Measurements
  • Averages

 

Additional workshops can be discussed.

Learners will need to provide evidence that that they:

 

Are aged 19 or over.

What are the benefits of the course?

Learning in a supportive environment, away from the demands of normal life, where professional teaching, differentiated for individual need, will support understanding, progression and individual achievement. You will gain a greater understanding of the curriculum content that your children will cover in school, learn how to support your children and develop your own skills. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and improve your own basic maths skills. You will also be able to find out about other available courses.

Teaching

All learning is supportive and safe and where professional teaching is individualised to the requirements of each learner. You will be taught in a classroom situation with one to one, paired and small group work and discussion.

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

Progress will be monitored through informal observation and group discussion. You will be asked to complete a feedback form.

What qualification will I get?

An in house SAFL certificate will be provided when learners have achieved their agreed learning outcomes.

After completing this course, could I progress onto another course?

At the end of this course you may feel confident to progress to another SAFL course, for example an accredited maths course.

Are there any additional costs?

There are no fees charged to you. Your course fees are paid for through the West Midlands Combined Authority, which is government funding.
