Course Details:

This course is designed to inform parents/carers about how their children are taught English in Sandwell schools. It will help parents/carers to support their children with their English skills, develop their own English skills and improve their confidence with English.

The course is offered as separate workshops, where schools can select the workshops that would be most useful for their parents. Workshops can be offered in:

• Reading comprehension

• Punctuation

• Grammar

• Spelling strategies

• Literary devices

Additional workshops can be discussed.

Entry Requirements:

Learners will need to provide evidence that that they:

• Have been a resident of the UK for the past three years.

• Are aged 19 or over on 31st August 2023.

Parents/Carers will have the opportunity to work in a supported environment away from the stresses of everyday family life.  You will have the opportunity to ask questions and improve your skills.  You will also be able to find out about a range of SAFL courses to continue your education.

Teaching:

All learning is supportive and safe and where professional teaching is individualised to the requirements of each learner. You will be taught in a classroom situation with one to one, paired and small group work and discussion.

How will progress be monitored and assessed?

Progress will be monitored through informal observation and group discussion. You will be asked to complete a feedback form.

Required Equipment:

Writing paper and a pen.
