Course Details
This learning pathway is designed to develop your English skills in reading, writing and speaking and listening, which will enable you to support your children and to develop your own skills enabling you to progress onto a further qualification or in the workplace.
Classes are taught for 2.5 hours, once a week.
Course Content
You will work towards a nationally recognised qualification at either level 1 or 2 which will help you to progress onto further study or to progress in the workplace. You will also gain skills which will support you in everyday life. You will learn in a supportive environment, away from the demands of normal life. Your tutor will support you with your learning, enabling you to progress and achieve. You will develop your skills in speaking and listening, reading and writing.
You will also complete two addtional learning modules which will support your skills development.

- Write a CV/Personal Statement
You will be encouraged to attend regularly. Our Functional Skills Level 2 qualification is the same complexity as a GCSE English qualification and is regarded as an equivalent Level 2 qualification with employers when looking for jobs.

Who is the course for?
This course is aimed at learners who would like to gain a nationally recognised qualification. It will help you to revise and learn new skills away from the stresses of normal family life. You will have a qualified tutor and will have the opportunity to ask questions and improve your skills. At the end of the course, your tutor will advise you of your progression routes which may include further Functional Skills Level 2 English qualification course.
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will need to complete an assessment before you join the course, and advice will be given as to the suitability of the course for you. Learning will take place in a supportive environment, where professional teaching will be differentiated for individual learner needs. Your course will be classroom based and you will take part in with one to one, paired and small group work. Full participation will require you to find some time to complete homework, which will be marked and commented on by the tutor with guidance to help you to know how to improve.
How will I progress?
The course can lead to further learning through further Functional Skills English levels.
Do I need to bring my own equipment/materials?
A pen and paper to make notes. Any aids to learning (glasses, hearing aids, etc.).
