Course Details
This learning pathway is designed to develop your English skills in reading, writing and speaking and listening, which will enable you to support your children and also to develop your own skills enabling you to progress onto a further qualification or in the workplace. Classes are taught for 2.5 hours, once a week.
Course Content
This pathway is for adults who are currently working at entry level who would like to gain a nationally recognised Functional Skills English qualification. As part of this programme you will spend 3 weeks developing your communications skills and will also take part in a Going Green workshop. While studying for your Functional Skills qualification, you will develop your speaking and listening, reading and writing skills. You will be given advice and guidance about the best starting point for you. You will be encouraged to attend regularly. You will be working to develop your skills in English to gain a qualification at either Entry 1, Entry 2 or Entry 3.

Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at learners who would like to gain a nationally recognised qualification and will enable you to revise and learn new skills away from the stresses of normal family life. You will have a qualified tutor and will have the opportunity to ask questions and improve your skills. At the end of the course, your tutor will advise you of your progression routes which may include further Functional Skills Level 1/2 English qualification courses.
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will need to complete an assessment before you join the course, and advice will be given as to the suitability of the course for you. Learning will take place in a supportive environment, where professional teaching will be differentiated for individual learner needs. Your course will be classroom based and you will take part in with one to one, paired and small group work. Full participation will require you to find some time to complete homework, which will be marked and commented on by the tutor with guidance to help you to know how to improve.
How can I progress?
This course can provide a way for you to progress onto the next Functional Skills level 1 and 2. Gaining a qualification at Level 2 can provide an entry point into a wide variety of career options and other further study.
Our English courses progress all the way to Functional Skills Level 2 which is the same complexity as a GCSE English Qualification and is regarded as an equivalent Level 2 qualification with employers when looking for jobs..

A pen and paper to make notes. Any aids to learning (glasses, hearing aids, etc.).
