Course Details

This  learning pathway is designed to improve their maths skills and gain a nationally recognised qualification.  This course is offered at level 1 and level 2

Course Content

You will be encouraged to attend regularly.  Our Functional Skills Level 2 qualification is the same complexity as a GCSE Maths qualification and is regarded as an equivalent Level 2 qualification with employers when looking for jobs.

In addition you will also study the following modules which will support the development of your maths skills.

They are:

Basic Skills – covering addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and delivered at the beginning of the course– these topics will give you a good grounding for topics covered in the remainder of the course.

Cost of Living/Money Management – designed to help you with everyday budgeting and how to manage finances.

Maths Skills for Work – a focus on the maths skills you will need for different types of employment

Who is the course for?

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.  However, before you can join this course you will be required to complete an initial interview and assessment to ensure the course is suitable, and identify that you have an adequate level of English.  

How will I be taught and assessed?

Variety of activities during session to establish maths skills including demonstration, group work and worksheets.  Feedback from tutor on progress.  Self-study modules given to complete outside of the classroom.

How can I progress?

Learners are able to move onto further levels of maths after completion.  There are opportunities to study other courses/programmes with SAFL search here.

Do I need to bring my own equipment/materials?

Pen, paper.  Study guides and access to online platforms for self-study modules will be provided.
