Course Details

Our Peparing for Digital Skills pathway can be completed at three levels depending upon your current skill level.  The purpose of the is pathway is to prepare you for progression onto a qualification course.

Course Content

Entry Level Level 1 Level 2
The course will cover the basics of being able to use digital skills to safely use technology in the workplace or for everyday use. Including Word documents, using the internet and file management.

The course will cover being able to use digital skills to safely use technology in the workplace or for everyday use. This course will give an insight in to what would be covered in higher level Digital Skills courses.

The course covers the following areas:

  • Using Devices and Handling Information - this includes taking screen shots, advanced file management, user errors and technical errors, and troubleshooting methods.
  • Creating and Editing - this includes advanced use of the different operating systems within Word documents, inserting and resizing images, making changes to text advanced use of Microsoft Excel.
  • Being Safe and Responsible Online - this includes physical health problems when using a device and how to prevent these, internet safety, password security, online content that is of concern and how to report concerns about online content.

Transactions module which develop skills for completing online transactions. Microsoft Outlook (Calendar/Task) module which will provide opportuntity to explore the calendar and task features. Excel Boolean Functions module which will introduce the use of logical functions AND, OR and NOT

Who is the course for?

You will need to complete an assessment before you join the course and advice will be given as to the suitability of the course for you.   Learning will take place in a supportive environment, where professional teaching will be differentiated for individual learner needs. 

How will I be taught and assessed?

Your course will be classroom based and you will take part in with one to one, paired and small group work. Full participation will require you to find some time to complete homework, which will be marked and commented on by the tutor with guidance to help you to know how to improve.

How can I progress?

The tutor will discuss next steps towards the end of the course and suggest further pathways/qualifications that may be appropriate. We also have Informatio, Advice and Guidance qualified staff who can advise learners on progression and other opportunities.

Do I need to bring my own equipment/materials?

A note pad and pen/pencil would be useful. Any materials needed for the course are provided by us.  It would be beneficial for you to have access to a laptop or computer outside of class.
