Course Details

The objective of this qualification is to prepare learners for further learning and training, whilst developing an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in a school setting, how to support the well-being of a child or young person their development.

The qualification is aimed at a range of learners, including learners with special educational needs, where English is an additional language or anyone thinking of working in a school setting.

There will be 3 units as part of the course: 

  • Understand schools as organisations.

  • Understand how to keep children and young people healthy, safe and well.

  • Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults.

Entry Requirements:

You will need to provide evidence that you have any of the following:

  • Been a resident of the UK/EU for the past three years.

  • Proof of immigration status
  • ​Aged 19+

This course requires you to have a good level of ICT, English (working competently at Entry 3, Level 1 or above) and maths skills in order to support achievement, progression and eventual employment. Before you can join this course, you will be required to complete a formal initial assessment for English and ICT. 

It is important that you are available to attend all your classes as non-attendance reduces your ability to achieve on your course.

Qualification

On successful completion of the course you will receive a NCFE Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools. All required units need to be achieved for this. 

 

Teaching

All the classes are run by a qualified and experienced tutor.  Learners will attend set classes each week and experience a variety of learning activities including tutor demonstration, practical activities, role-play, group discussion and research.

It is important that learners attend all classes, as not attending reduces their ability to achieve on the course.

Next Steps:

Learners can progress onto the Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges or the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
