Functional Skill in ICT Level1 / Level 2
If you want to progress in using ICT then this may be the course for you. You will be encouraged and challenged to work at a pace which will ensure you achieve your planned goals.
You will be able to expand your knowledge of using software applications including:
• Microsoft Word Processing
• Excel Spreadsheets
• PowerPoint Presentations
• Access Databases
• Windows and File Management
• Internet and Email
This course requires you to have a basic level of ICT, English (working at Entry 3 as a minimum) and maths skills in order to support achievement, progression and potential employment. Before you can join this course you will be required to complete a formal initial assessment for English, maths and ICT.
If you are an existing learner your progression onto further levels will depend on your previous achievement and your English and maths skills. It is important if you do not hold a level 1 or 2 English and/or maths qualifications that you consider joining our English and maths classes to develop your skills if you are intending to progress to Functional Skills ICT Level 2. It is important that you are available to attend all your classes as non-attendance reduces your ability to achieve on your course.

The benefits of this course
This course will help you develop your knowledge and skills in a range of software applications that most employers desire. These can include using spread sheets with advanced formulae e.g. IF function and filtering information. You will also learn how to use mail merge to produce numerous letters and labels. If you have never used database software before, then, this may be your chance to learn how to use it effectively.
Achieving this level 2 qualification will give you not only employability skills that can be evidenced on your CV but it will build your self-confidence and give you skills to enhance other learning opportunities. You will develop independent learning and problem solving skills useful for everyday life in a digital age.
You will attend one session a week which will be delivered by a member of our experienced and well qualified teaching staff. You will use various resources to ensure you cover all the elements of the qualification. This will be followed by practice assessment tasks to ensure you are confident to use your new skills before you sit the formal examination.
Where possible, practice tasks will be given so that you can continue learning between sessions and apply your skills to personal tasks outside the class.
How will progress be monitored and assessed?
Your tutor will discuss the work you need to complete at the beginning and end of each session and help you plan what you need to do next. The work you submit will be marked with written feedback. You will be given target dates to complete each phase of the course in preparation for the final timed examination.
A successful pass will result in a City and Guilds Functional Skills ICT qualification
After completing this course, could I progress onto another course?
Your Tutor will discuss your next steps during and towards the end of your course and suggest further qualifications or other options that may be appropriate. You may like to study Business Administration Level 1 or 2.
