Then this course may be for you. This course is for adults and is designed to help you progress in English from basic entry level 1 or 2 in order to gain a nationally recognised qualification. You will develop detailed knowledge, skills and application of English.

This course runs for 10 weeks at 2 hours per lesson. You will be given advice and guidance about the best starting point for you. Please ask for details when enquiring.
You will need to provide evidence that you have any of the following:
Been a resident of the UK/EU for the past three years.
- Proof of immigration status
When you enrol with us we will ask you to complete a simple test. If your level of English is above this level then we will refer you to that level English course. We do this to make sure you are studying at the right level to ensure your personal growth and development.
You will be encouraged to attend regularly. When you have completed this course you can progress onto the next stage of learning English. Our English courses progress all the way to Functional Skills Level 2 which is the same complexity as a GCSE English Qualification and is regarded as an equivelent Level 2 qualification with employers when looking for jobs.

This class will enable you to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of English enabling you to gain a qualification by the end of the course. As the course progresses you should be able to participate more fully in everyday life and become more employable.The course will introduce English skills from the very foundations, making English more understandable.
This course complements our Reading Skills and Conversational Skills courses. Study all 3 for a well rounded knowledge of English.
All learning is supportive and safe and where professional teaching is individualised to the requirements of each learner. Learning support will be provided by the tutor. At Sandwell Adult and Family Learning (SAFL) you will be taught in an adult only venue, using materials that are designed for adults. There is likely to be a lot of conversation and shared learning, whole group work and individual learning with time to practice all of the learnt skills. The course will provide lots of opportunities to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
How will progress be monitored and assessed?
Marking and feedback will often happen during the class where the tutor will guide and support you to achieve your session target.
Progression will be monitored through assessment of practical activities, marking of completed work and homework will be issued and marked with guidance and feedback to help you to improve. Your tutor will let you know how the final assessment tasks fit into the course.
You will be asked to complete an individual Personal Learning Plan and reflect on your own progress each week in a Personal learning journal. Your tutor will support your learning with both written and verbal feedback on how you can progress and develop your skills on a weekly basis.
During and at the end of the course there is an opportunity to let us know how you feel about your experiences as a learner with SAFL. We want to know how you got on and value what you have to say.
You will be working towards a nationally recognised qualification. On successful completion of the course, you will achieve a certificate for an Introductory Award in Life and Living Skills at Entry 2 or Entry 3.
After completing this course, could I progress onto another course?
Gaining a qualification can provide an entry point to a variety of further study opportunities. This course can provide a way for you to go onto the next Functional Skills level.

There are no fees charged to you.
Your course fees are paid for through the West Midlands Combined Authority, which is government funding.
You may wish to bring a note pad and pen/pencil and start to make your own reference notes. Any other materials you need for the course are provided by us
