Volunteer Learner Governor

SAFL Needs Volunteer Learner Governors

Learner engagement is integral to the success of this college. Engaging with learners, staff, parents and the wider community helps governing boards get to know their college and enables robust decision-making. Ensuring stakeholder voices are heard is a fundamental part of good governance.

In 2020, NGA formally identified ensuring the voices of stakeholders are heard as the fourth core function for governing boards because it helps ensure:

  • The values, vision and strategy set by the governing board has the support of the community because the community has had a role in shaping them.

  • The governing board challenges and questions leaders from an informed position because they know what stakeholders think and feel.

  • The governing board itself remains accountable to the community it serves by being visible and transparent.

  • Listening to stakeholders helps the college to identify strengths and areas for improvement.

SAFL needs you to help us on the journey towards excellent governance. If you are a current learner with SAFL and interested in becoming a volunteer learner governor, please speak to your tutor or email  tonia_green@sandwell.gov.uk    to register your interest or arrange to have an informal chat about the role.

The next two governance meetings are:
