Functional Skills ICT Level 1

 

Course Details:

If you have entry level 3 skills with using ICT and want to progress then this may be the course for you. You will be encouraged and challenged to work at a pace which will ensure you achieve your planned goals.

You will be able to expand your knowledge of using software applications such as:

  • Word Processing
  • Excel Spreadsheets
  • Windows and File Management
  • Internet and Email
  • Presentations
  • Database

 

Entry Requirements:

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.  However, before you can join this course you will be required to complete an initial assessment for English, maths and ICT in order for us to identify that you have an adequate level of English and maths skills to support achievement, progression and potential employment.

If you are an existing learner your progression onto further levels will depend on your level of English and maths skills.  If the outcome of your initial assessment indicates that your level of English is not at the level suitable for this course, then you will be advised to join one of our English classes to develop your skills.

It is important that you are able to attend all your classes as non-attendance reduces your ability to achieve on your course.

What are the benefits of this course?

This course will help you develop your knowledge and skills in a range of software applications that most employers desire. Achieving this qualification will give you not only employability skills that can be evidenced on your CV but it will build your self-confidence and give you skills to enhance other learning opportunities.  You will develop independent learning and problem solving skills useful for everyday life in a digital age.

 

How will I learn?

You will attend one session a week which will be delivered by a member of our experienced and well qualified teaching staff. You will use various resources to ensure you cover all the elements of the qualification.  This will be followed by practice assessment tasks to ensure you are confident to use your new skills before you sit the formal examination. Where possible practice tasks will be given so that you can continue learning between sessions and apply your skills to personal tasks outside the class.

 

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

Your tutor will discuss the work you need to complete at the beginning and end of each session and help you plan what you need to do next. The work you submit will be marked with written feedback. You will be given target dates to complete each phase of the course in preparation for the final examination.   The final examination uses an ‘In app’ system, downloading and uploading on-line your actual software files.

 

What qualification will I get?

You will gain a City and Guilds Functional Skills ICT Level 1 qualification.

 

After completing this course, could I progress onto another course?

Your Tutor will discuss your next steps during and towards the end of your course and suggest further qualifications that may be appropriate. You may like to study further ICT courses, Administration or maths and English.
