Bridging the Gap: ICT Level 1 Plus

 

Course Details:

To develop learners’ knowledge, skills and understanding of ICT, in order to progress onto a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification course.  This course incorporates an NCFE Preparing to Learn qualification to aid learners with their study skills.   This course runs for 8 weeks at 2.5 hours per lesson. 

 

Entry Requirements:

Learners will need to have Level 1 or proportion of Level 2 skills in ICT before joining the Bridging the Gap: ICT Level 1 Plus course, as well as at least Level 1 English skills to ensure good understanding.  They will be asked to complete an assessment before they join the course which will include a piece of writing and advice will be given as to the suitability of the course for them.  They must be committed to attending regularly and ideally able to work on tasks outside of the class time.

The benefits of this course:

This course will develop learners’ knowledge, skills and understanding of ICT enabling them to develop a foundation of Level 2 skills.  Combined with gaining a Preparing to Learn qualification learners will be equipped with the necessary study skills to effectively complete a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in ICT. 

The course will provide learners with a professional approach towards working within an office environment and improved confidence for independent everyday life in a digital society.

 

They will consolidate and improve their skills and knowledge of:

  • Effective file management practice

  • ICT office software including more intricate functions such as mail merge and spreadsheet formula

  • Good study habits.

 

 

Teaching:

Learners will be taught in a classroom situation with independent work on practice tasks, as well as group work.  This will provide learners with opportunities to develop and progress with their ICT and study skills.

 

How will progress be monitored and assessed?

Progression will be monitored through assessment via observation of practical activities, marking of completed work and through group discussion. Learners will complete an Individual Learning Plan and reflect on their own progress each week.  The Preparing to Learn qualification will be assessed through a portfolio of work completed as part of the class activities.   The tutor will provide learners with both written and verbal feedback on how they can progress and develop their skills on a weekly basis.

 

Qualification:

Learners will work towards a recognised Preparing to Learn qualification at Level 1.  On successful completion of this course, they will achieve a Certificate in Preparing to Learn and an in-house certificate detailing the targets that they have achieved.   If they have successfully completed the course they will be able to progress directly onto a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification. 

 

After completing this course, could I progress onto another course?

This course can provide progression onto Level 2 ICT Functional Skills course.  

 

Are there any additional costs?

You may be required to pay towards the qualification element of this course depending on your individual circumstances.

 

Equipment Required:

Learners may wish to bring a note pad and pen/pencil and make their own study notes.  Any other materials they need for the course are provided by us.   It would be advantageous to have access to office software to be able to practice outside of the class times.
