Course Details

If you aspire to work in an office, are new to administration, wish to enter the workplace in an administrative role or have used a limited variety of skills to carry out administrative tasks then this may be the course for you.

This course provides you with an introduction to the key aspects of working in an office environment. You will need a minimum of 8 credits to achieve  the Award. To do this you should complete two core units (each unit has a credit value) as follows:

• Working in business and administration (Level 1) 3 credits

• Creating business documents (Level 1) 3 credits

Plus one optional unit. 

There is a range of optional units dependant on your needs

• Making and receiving calls (Level 1) 2 credits

• Handling mail (Level 1) 2 credits

• Financial transactions (Level 2) 3 credits

• Handling diary systems (Level 2) 3 credits

 

Entry Requirements

This course requires you to have a good level of ICT, English (working competently at Entry 3, Level 1 or above) and maths skills in order to support achievement, progression and eventual employment. Before you can join this course you will be required to complete a formal initial assessment for English, maths and ICT. 

It is important that you are available to attend all your classes as non-attendance reduces your ability to achieve on your course.

The benefits of this course

This course will provide you with key knowledge, skills and understanding that would be needed by a new employee in an administrative job role. In addition to developing your practical office skills it will  help to boost your self-confidence and contributes to enhance your employment prospects.

If successful, you will gain a recognised qualification, the OCR Level 1 Award in Administration (Business professional).

Teaching

You will attend two sessions each week and experience a variety of learning activities such as tutor demonstration, practical activities including role-play and using office equipment, discussion and research. There may be the opportunity to attend additional supported sessions if you need to practice your skills.

How will progress be monitored and assessed?

Your Tutor will assess your competence through written tasks, production of documents and observation of practical tasks. You will also record your progress, achievements and reviews in your Personal Learning Plan each session. You will gain your qualification by producing evidence successfully for a portfolio to achieve the unit assessment standards.

 

Qualification

You will receive OCR Level 1 Award in Administration (Business Professional) qualification if all required units are achieved.

After completing this course, could I progress onto another course?

Your Tutor will discuss your next steps towards the end of your course and suggest further qualifications that may be appropriate. You may like to study on a general ICT course.
