Repairs and Alterations

 

Course Details:

On this 10 or 12 weeks course you will develop the skills to use a sewing maching to either alter existing clothes or alter patterns to create new garments, set up and use a sewing machine and stitch garments using different techniques and tools.

Entry Requirements:

This course is suitable for complete beginners, intermediate or advanced learners.

What are the benefits of this course?

At the end of the course you will be able to set up and use a sewing machine to repair and alter your own garments.

 

How will I learn?

Full support will be provided by your tutor with demonstrations, practical activities, discussion, one to one support and informative handouts.

 

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

Learning outcomes will be agreed at the beginning of the course between you and your tutor. Your tutor will assess your learning during the sessions and will provide you with individual feedback while reviewing your achievements. Finished work will be assessed by your tutor at the end of your course.  You will also be asked to provide feedback via a questionnaire and group assessment.

 

What qualification will I get?

An in house SAFL certificate will be provided when you have achieved your agreed learning outcomes.

 

After completing this course, could I progress onto another course?

At the end of this course you will be able to enrol on further SAFL or college courses.

 

Are there any additional costs?

You will be required to purchase material to enable you to produce garments. The requirements will be discussed and agreed with your tutor at enrolment.

 

Equipment Required

Learners will need: A standard tape measure, pins and sewing needles, tailors chalk, dressmaking shears, pattern paper, stationery folder, fabric and thread.
